Create Your Business Map

As a budding entrepreneur, do you have a map for your (ad)venture?

Or does the term “business plan” make you want to run and hide?  When you think of creating a business plan, do you think of big businesses and lots of pages of seemingly useless information? Do you imagine boring, 40-page documents that gather dust in a filing cabinet, never to be seen again after the initial hoopla?

A business map is so much more than that for today’s small business owner.

The best business plans are dynamic maps that define what success means to you and help you get there. They are living, breathing documents that help guide you – and your business — as you move toward your vision of success.

That is the kind of business map you can have.

Here is what one happy client had to say:

“If you’re an entrepreneur, or considering becoming one, do yourself a huge favor and buy this gem of wisdom.  It’s easy to follow, brilliant, totally inspired, and is a sure-fire way to get laser focused and set up in no time.  Literally, you have everything you need in this little beauty including templates and links to great resources. Nona is not only a superb coach, but when it comes to business she’s knowledgeable, practical, supportive and is an entrepreneurial genius.  Buy it now.  You won’t regret it.  It’s been a gift that kept giving for me and not just a one-time-read-and-file book.”

-Helen Samson Mullen, Life Coach

This is the kind of plan that will help you reach success much more quickly, provide a beacon on your journey as a business-owner, and, an articulate vision of exactly where you see yourself taking your business.

When you Create Your Business Map, you will work through eight distinct, practical, and simple, steps to create your map. This is going to be a joy-filled, enlightening process.  You can look forward to business planning now.

The Way it Works

You will begin by defining what you do, who you serve, and why you do it.  This provides a 20,000-foot perspective of your business and will help you stay focused when you are defining your product and service offerings.

Next, you will do a little bit of dreaming- you will describe an ideal day, 1-year from now.  Who you are with, what you are wearing, where you are, how many hours you work, what kind of stuff you are working on, who you are serving, income, etc.  In as much happy detail as possible, define what an ideal day will look like for you.

Next, we will get into the nitty gritty — it’s time to define, based on your ideal day and personal preferences, your ideal mix of service/product offerings.

Based on your ideal mix of service and product offerings, you will figure out how much to charge for all of your awesomeness and create an income projection for the next quarter.

Once you know how you want to serve your people, it’s time to get clear on what you will need to reach your people and what kind of support you will need to serve your clients and customers.  This is where you begin to see what actions you need to take toward your plan, and also help you define your expenses.

From these last two, you will pull together a simple income and expense forecast to aim for.

After putting all this thought into how you envision your business, you will define how you will recognize personal success.  You will list out your top five measures of success, so you know exactly when it’s time to have a party to celebrate your accomplishments.

Last, you will take the information that you have pulled together to define, and more important, take the actions required so that you can reach your vision of success.

This is perfect for:

  • New business owners (or people getting ready to launch a small, home-based business)
  • Business owners who have a plan, but don’t know what to do with it
  • Entrepreneurs who don’t have a business plan, and feel the pain of needing one to move forward

You will walk away with:

  • A business plan for the next quarter, if not the whole year!
  • An energizing way to move forward with your goals for your business and make it fit with the rest of your life
  • More clarity about where you are taking your business
  • An action plan to move forward and meet your goals
  • Increased energy and excitement about your present, and your future!

This guide incorporates the best of my knowledge as a CPA with my experience and know-how as the owner of two small businesses.  I know how important it is to have a map to guide your actions.  But I also know how overwhelming and stressful it can be to create a plan — especially because “business-speak” is often like a different language.  As the Business Yogini, I have created this guide to be accessible, relevant, and simple to use.  No business-speak, just practical, direct steps that will help you create the map you need to create and grow the business that you want.
