One Task Tuesdays

March 16, 2010

Are there things you *know* you could do to get organized, build your business, or take care of yourself?

Are there tasks that have languished on your to-do-list for who-knows-how-long that give you nightmares (okay, maybe not nightmares…)?

Each Tuesday is a chance to get a long-standing item off of your to-do list, OR take on the task that I suggest.  The tasks that I suggest will be simple, proactive tasks you can do to optimize your online presence, connect with your people, get organized, love your business, or nourish yourself so you can be at your absolute best.

Ready?  Let’s do it!

If your website/blog is built on WordPress (and I hope it is), today’s task is for you!  In less than five minutes, you can make it easier for Google to pick up your site in search engines. And if you are online, and you are a blogger or are an entrepreneur, you want Google to love your site, right?  I discovered this little gem over at The Secret is in the Sauce, a community for Mom’s who blog and do business on-line.

Create & publish a sitemap for your blog, for Google’s sake!

From your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins and go to Add New. Search for “Google XML Sitemaps” and you will get a list of plugins.  Look for Google XML Sitemaps and off to the right, choose “Install” and then Activate the plugin.

Go to the settings page of the Google XML Sitemaps plugin, and the plugin will create your sitemap automatically (the address of your new sitemap will be: http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml).

Now go to Google Webmasters Tools (you can sign in with your Google account) and submit your site — don’t forget to add your new sitemap (created above…) to your new google webmaster profile to make it easy-peasy for Google to see your site and pick it up in search results.

What’s your one task for today?

Clear something long-standing from your to-do list, or you can create your google sitemap and submit it to google webmasters.

Either way, share your success and celebrate with us in the comments.
