Make Room for the Good Stuff

by nona on December 14, 2009

Space for the good stuffIt is definitely that time of year. When the gifts start rolling in, and the new year looms large, I look around and start to have a mild panic attack. Too much stuff! Must. Purge. House. Now.

This is a healthy ending to the year- this urge to get rid of the old and welcome the new. In Feng Shui, there is a lot of talk about making space for what you want energetically by getting rid of physical stuff that is just lying around, cluttering up your physical space.

I couldn’t agree more.

Of course this is just one more thing to add to your to-do list, right? Let me offer a different perspective on clearing out all that clutter. Instead of viewing it as yet another thing that you don’t have time for, you can look at it as a life-giving ritual to make space for great things in 2010.  Whether you are a devoted goal-setter, or you love to create themes and intentions to guide your year, clearing out the old gets you ready for the new ideas, experiences, and good stuff that are just itching to come your way this year!

This week, I am taking 10 minutes per day to clean out the old and prepare to welcome the new. And really, what is 10 minutes? I started my purge yesterday by setting a timer. I opened my closets and within 10 minutes I had four huge trash bags full of items to donate. Today, I will go through my bookshelves. Tomorrow, kitchen cabinets. Wednesday will be my office space. You get the idea. Would you like to join me in preparing for your best year yet? Honor the urge to purge and enjoy the feeling of making space for what you really want in 2010.
